I have had the honor of being a part of Hillside School for 21 years. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Special Education from Eastern Illinois University and my first year as a Special Educator was here at Hillside School. Years later I completed my Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Governor's State University. The next school year I became the Assistant Principal.
Hillside School has become my home away from home. There have been so many students, staff and members of the community that have become like family. I think that is why it is so easy to come to work everyday. The pleasure of watching a child grow from Kindergarten until 8th grade graduation is amazing. That is never "The End". Our students have always come back to visit and let us know the exciting things that are going on in their world beyond Hillside School. It just doesn't get any better than that!!
As we begin a new school year, I am most excited about bringing PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports) to Hillside School! With PBIS, kids learn about behavior, just as they learn other subjects like math or science. The key to PBIS is prevention, not punishment. It's so much fun to hand out the Blue Jay Bucks!!
Here's to a fantastic year! Always remember BE RESPECTFUL, BE RESPONSIBLE, and BE SAFE!!
