Student Evaluation
Report Cards
In order to give parents/ guardians an estimation of the child's achievement in relation to his/her native
ability, report cards are issued four times per year to students in grades one through eight.
These are sent home with children, and an acknowledgment signature card from the parents is returned to the
teacher.
The first report card is issued in conjunction with the annual ParentTeacher Conference Day, for which parents
are asked to come to school to discuss their child's progress.
Progress Reports
Parents/guardians of children may receive progress reports midway through the grading periods which
describe the child's strengths/weaknesses in major subject areas.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/teacher conferences are a very important means of reporting a child's progress. In addition to
scheduled conference dates, parents are encouraged to schedule additional conferences when they have
questions or concerns. Teachers may also request a conference with parents.
Retention
At the end of the first semester of the school year, the Principal makes an initial inquiry regarding
those students whose work indicates that they may not be successful in the next grade. When those names
are given to the office, parent conferences are scheduled with the teacher and Principal to discuss the
child's progress and develop a promotion contract for the remainder of the school year. Promoting students
merely for social intent is contrary to Board Policy IEDA and contrary to the educational needs of children.
