Attendance
School Hours/Arrival and Departure
The school day begins at 8:45 A.M., with first bell at 8:35 A.M. Kindergarten, first, second, third and fourth
grades are dismissed at 3:08 P.M. Fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades are dismissed at 3:13 P.M. Buses
leave the school at 3:20 P.M.
Students may not arrive or enter the building prior to 8:30 A.M. they are enrolled in a school sponsored activity or have specific permission from a teacher.
Children may not come to school prior to 8:35 A.M . as THERE IS NO PLAYGROUND SUPERVISION.
Students may not remain in the building after 3:30 P.M. unless accompanied by a staff member.
In inclement weather, students may be allowed to enter the building. Otherwise students remain outside until
first bell.
Leaving School Grounds
Students are not allowed to leave school grounds during the school day except for medical or dental care or
a family emergency. A note must be sent to school with the date, reason for early dismissal, and time of
dismissal. If time does not allow for sending a note, parents must come directly to the front desk.
Children leaving school during the school day must be signed out at the reception desk by a parent.
When students leave early for a dentist or doctor's appointment, or arrive late because of this, verification
must be sent to the school with the student. This verification can be a signed appointment card, written note,
or paid invoice from the healthcare provider.
Students who forget lunches, gym clothes, keys, homework or other items may not leave the school grounds to
get them.
Absences
Absences can be reported after 3:30 P.M. for the following day or by calling the school at 449-6491 by
9:00 A.M. on the day of absence and selecting #2 on the telephone menu. Please be sure to give the
student's name, grade and reason for absence. This must be done on each day the child is absent.
Parents must provide a phone number to the school where they can be contacted to verify an absence,
or to call if parent contact is not made by 9:00 A.M. on the day of their child's absence.
Requests for school books may be made when calling in to report an absence. Call the Homework Hotline at
anytime for ongoing class information and assignments: 449-6491, select # 1 from the menu.
When a child returns to school, a written excuse signed by a parent or guardian giving the cause of the
absence and absence dates must be sent. According to Board Policy IED, a doctor's note must be provided
following a 3 day absence. If an absence is due to a communicable disease, a doctor's statement must be
provided before a student may return to school.
Tardiness
ALL students who are tardy, who must be dismissed early for personal reasons, who go to another student's
home straight from school, or have any change in their normal routine must bring a written, dated,
note from a parent or guardian, with an explanation. The note is to be taken to the school reception
desk or to the student's teacher.
